Our beagle, Snoop Douglas, was voted Top Dog in the Pet Idol Paws for the Cause contest. Top Dog, first place, numero uno! Pet Idol is a fundraiser sponsored by the Star Herald newspaper in Scottsbluff, Neb. Over 50 pet owners submitted a photo of their pet that was then posted to the newspaper's website and then everyone voted for the cutest pet. Twenty votes cost $5 and all voting fees went straight tot he Panhandle Humane Society in Scottsbluff.
I submitted an adorable photo of Snoop tilting his head in wonderment as he listens to his favorite toy bird chirp. The bird is technically a cat toy that chirp, chirp, chirps whenever it moves. We named the bird Woodstock and Snoop carries that stupid bird around everywhere. Because the photo was so cute aunts, grandparents, friends, coworkers and parents showered Snoop with votes. Originally, I was just shooting for a top-12 spot because the top 12 pets are featured in a calendar. But Snoop ended up taking first place with 540 votes; he raised about $135. As if being Pet Idol wasn't enough, he received a $150 Walmart gift card, his picture was in the newspaper and he was featured in May in the 2011 Pet Idol calendar. Snoop will forever be known as Mr. May. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a proud dog mom.
